Finance Director

JOB SUMMARY: This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for managing company fiscal operations covering construction, mortgage, ReStore, and facilities. The Finance Director and the Affiliate operate the accounting/finance function in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and develops and implements related policies and procedures.

OVERVIEW: Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester is an independent 501 (c) 3 affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International with an annual budget of approximately $3 million serving 42 communities in Central Massachusetts. JOB SUMMARY: This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for managing company fiscal operations covering construction, mortgage, ReStore, and facilities. The Finance Director and the Affiliate operate the accounting/finance function in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and develops and implements related policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs finance management while balancing affiliate growth.
  • Provides leadership for the overall company budget, accounting process, ReStores, mortgage operations, land and property acquisition, facilities management and purchasing.
  • Provides guidance for financial decisions, status of financial condition of the company, and reports key financial data routinely.
  • Provides support to Development Team for grant applications and grant reporting.
  • Negotiates vendor contracts.
  • Responsible for month end closing process, restricted fund accounting and analysis, and cash flow analysis and budgeting.
  • Reviews and assists in preparation of monthly account reconciliations of key general ledger accounts.
  • Updates and maintains accounting policies and procedures manual.
  • Supervises and directs finance volunteers and interns.
  • Works closely with Finance Committee and Treasurer on complex financial reporting matters.
  • Prepares for and oversees annual independent financial statement audit. Point person for auditor relationship.
  • Works closely with legal services providers and officers to execute real estate transactions.
  • Prepares monthly Board finance package including financial dashboard of key metrics and cash flow analysis/projection and presents to Finance Committee and Board.
  • Communicates and follows up with homeowners and any related delinquent balances.
  • Point person for outsourced IT and Human Resources relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position supervises the volunteer accounting support individuals while working directly with the Board of Director’s Finance Committee.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration preferred or equivalent work experience and training.
  • Five years experience in a finance management position.
  • Mortgage loan origination and loan servicing/collection experience beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with varied audiences.
  • Goal-oriented, success driven, professional, outgoing and self-starting.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • QuickBooks / construction / nonprofit accounting experience a plus

Assistant ReStore Manager - Ashland

This position assists the Store Manager in administrative and operational functions of the Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore. The Assistant ReStore Manager assists the Store Manager in achieving operational, financial, administrative and customer service goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the store in the absence of the store manager.
  • Manage all purchased product with the store manager.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service while always seeking to understand the customer and donor needs.
  • Open and close the store as needed.
  • Daily cash drawer reconciliation and deposits.
  • General oversight, development, and review of policies, procedures, store operations and volunteer management in coordination with the store manager.
  • Assist the ReStore Manager in developing and implementing marketing and public relations campaigns for increasing donations and sales.
  • Familiar with social media platforms and ability to maintain such platforms.
  • Oversee the display and organization of showroom sales areas to ensure all items and departments are properly priced and ticketed for sale.
  • Schedule regular training for new and current staff members on new policies and programs.
  • Assist with donation screening, uploading donations and training staff for the price.
  • Assist on the sales floor and moving sold items as needed.
  • Achieve excellent customer, donor, and volunteer ratings.
  • Assist in training new hires as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have the willingness to learn other programs as needed.
  • Self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic. Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Be empathetic to customers, donors, volunteers, and staff while providing excellent service.
  • Ability to handle and defuse challenging situations with tact. Excellent communication and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Commitment to the safe working environment.
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers while also having the ability to perform must task in the absence of staff or volunteers.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Forklift certification a plus
  • Ability to develop the procurement capabilities of the store and gain donations through the development of key relationships or business and corporations.

 

Education/Experience

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of retail sales and leadership experience.
  • Retail experience with building materials/hardware preferred.

AmeriCorps National Construction Crew Leader

Construction crew leaders play an integral part in building and repairing more homes, leading to better neighborhoods and communities. As a construction crew leader, you will lead and develop groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities all while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. Using volunteer management techniques, you will manage volunteers and homeowner families as they assist in the building of new homes and/or repairing existing homes or completing weatherization projects. Together, you will perform hands-on construction tasks.

ReStore ASSOCIATE

The goal of this position is to support the ReStore. ReStore is an exciting and fast paced retail environment that supports Habitat’s mission of building homes, communities and hope for local families and veterans.

Job Title: ReStore Associate

Goal of the Job: To support the Habitat for Humanity Metro/West Greater Worcester ReStore.

Responsible To: Restore Manager

Clerk Hours: Thursday thru Saturday (some flexing is possible)

Time Required: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
1. Cashier experience
2. Strong customer service skills; Greet and thank customers for their business
3. Register area clean and organized. Help keep facility clean and organized
4. Arrive on time and ready to work. Work clothes and closed toed shoes are required
5. Follow all safety guidelines and instructions from ReStore Director
6. Complete projects in a timely manner, asking for help as needed
7. Assist customers, run cash register and maintain merchandise
8. Respond to phone and email inquiries.
9. Serve as an Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity

Other Duties as Needed:
1. Respond to donor and customer inquiries
2. Schedule donation pickups
3. Clean, test, price, and merchandize donations
4. Assist donors and customers with loading/unloading items from their vehicles
5. Lead/supervise and work with volunteers

Qualifications or special skills needed:
Ability to learn new skills and work well with others. Flexible and willing to be available where needed
Ability to lift 50 lbs

Training provided:
An orientation to the ReStore will be conducted on-site.

ReStore Driver/Donations Ambassador

The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester - ReStore is looking for a qualified and experienced full time driver, to pick up donations from homes in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area, to unload trucks, help load customer vehicles, process donations, and provide general customer service. Warehouse support will be required as assigned.

Job Type: Full time position, 5 days per week (Tuesday-Saturday) position, 40 hours per week.

*Part-time positions also available.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive HFHMW/GW vehicles to pick-up donated goods from homes and businesses.
  • Load and unload all donated materials.
  • Use judgement and experience to screen for product usability (will train!)
  • Operate forklift (preferred)
  • Assist customers, donors and staff in store as needed.

Requirements:

  • Valid MA Driver’s license with clean driving record provided by MA Registry of Motor Vehicles.
  • DOT card required (have or be able to pass the test to receive this certification).
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check.
  • Experience driving a 22 ft. box truck. No Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • At least 25 years of age and with 3 years of professional driving experience with box trucks.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs independently and work as a team to move larger items.
