JOB DESCRIPTION

PART-TIME GENERAL LABORER FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY METROWEST/GREATER WORCESTER

To Assist with Programs for Veteran Families

Hours: 20 (Monday – Saturday, 8:00 – 4:00 PM, Days TBD)

Reports to: VP of Philanthropy

Goals: With increasing need to accommodate veterans, those with disabilities and the elderly who are aging in place, there is a significant demand for Outreach programs such as Critical Home Repair (CHR), A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) and Operation Playhouse. With this increased demand, further organizational support is required to support Operation Playhouse, a program that builds playhouses for the children of Veterans.

Responsibilities of the Position
Assist with Operation Playhouse coordination – working in our off-site storage locations to inventory supplies, load the truck for events, keep storage area organized, and help on-site with each Operation Playhouse build.
Lead small groups of volunteers.
Help with materials management on site and at the storage warehouse and storage trailers. Pick up and organize materials needed for projects.
Participate in regular planning and debriefing meetings as needed.
Assist with Critical Home Repairs and Brush with Kindness events on an as-needed basis. Basic construction skills will be utilized with supervision from staff.

Required Meetings, Trainings and Events
Operation Playhouse Events to take place during Build-A-Thons (twice a year), and
Bi-weekly meeting with VP of Philanthropy and Operation Playhouse Manager (minimum)

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills Desired for this Position
Valid Driver’s License, ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements and ability to drive large pick-up trucks
Previous experience in construction preferred
Experience with power tools preferred
Experience working with volunteers or teaching/group facilitation experience desirable
Ability to work with a diverse group of people and experience working as a member of a team
Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity and our affiliate

Physical Requirements
Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time, sometimes on rough and uneven terrain
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis
Ability to work on ladders and heights of up to two-stories
Ability to work in varying weather conditions – event sites and storage areas are often not heated during winter and not air-conditioned during summer

Personal vehicle required?
Some travel is required for this position, so utilization of your own vehicle to get to required meetings and commute between build sites is necessary.
Member will have the opportunity to drive company trucks in order to transport tools and materials to and from the event or work sites.

Responsible To: Worcester Restore Manager

Clerk Hours: Thursday thru Saturday (some flexing is possible)

Time Required: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
1. Cashier experience
2. Strong customer service skills; Greet and thank customers for their business
3. Register area clean and organized. Help keep facility clean and organized
4. Arrive on time and ready to work. Work clothes and closed toed shoes are required
5. Follow all safety guidelines and instructions from ReStore Director
6. Complete projects in a timely manner, asking for help as needed
7. Assist customers, run cash register and maintain merchandise
8. Respond to phone and email inquiries.
9. Serve as an Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity

Other Duties as Needed:
1. Respond to donor and customer inquiries
2. Schedule donation pickups
3. Clean, test, price, and merchandize donations
4. Assist donors and customers with loading/unloading items from their vehicles
5. Lead/supervise and work with volunteers

Qualifications or special skills needed:
Ability to learn new skills and work well with others. Flexible and willing to be available where needed

Training provided:

Assistant ReStore Manager - Ashland

This positions assists the Ashland ReStore Manager in administrative and operational functions of the Habitat for Humanity - MetroWest Greater/Worcester ReStore. The Ashland Assistant ReStore Manager assists the Ashland ReStore Manager in achieving operational, financial, administrative and customer service goals.

Responsibilities
• Manage the ReStore in the absence of the ReStore manager.
• Manage all purchased product with the ReStore manager.
• Provide the highest level of customer service while always seeking to understand the customer and donor needs.
• Open and close the ReStore as needed.
• Daily cash drawer reconciliation and deposits.
• General oversight, development and review of policies, procedures, ReStore operations and volunteer management in coordination with ReStore manager.
• Assist the ReStore Manager in developing and implementing social media marketing campaigns for increasing donations and sales.
• Assist in procurement from local businesses for the ReStore.
• Oversee display and organization of showroom sales areas to ensure all items and departments are properly priced and ticketed for sale.
• Schedule regular training for new and current staff members on new policies and programs.
• Assist with donation screening, uploading donations and training staff to price.
• Assist on sales floor and moving sold items as needed.
• Achieve excellent customer, donor, and volunteer ratings.
• Assist in training of new hires as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
• Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have willingness to learn other programs as needed.
• Self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic. Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Be empathetic to customers, donors, volunteers and staff while providing excellent service.
• Ability to handle and defuse challenging situations with tact. Excellent communication and conflict resolutions skills.
• Commitment to safe working environment.
• Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers while also having the ability to perform must tasks in the absence of staff or volunteers.
• Ability to operation office equipment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Forklift certification a plus.
• Ability to develop the procurement capabilities of the ReStore and gain donations through the development of key relationships or business and corporations.
• Flexibility, multi-tasking and an ever evolving and changing environment. A sense of humor a MUST.

Education/Experience
• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of retail sales and leadership experience.
• Retail experience with building materials/hardware preferred.

ReStore Driver/Donations Ambassador – Worcester

The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore in Worcester is looking for a qualified and experienced full time driver, to pick up donations from homes in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area, to unload trucks, help load customer vehicles, process donations, and provide general customer service. Warehouse support will be required as assigned.

  • Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check.
  • Experience driving a 22 ft. box truck. No Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Strong driving knowledge of the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area or ability to use GPS.
  • At least 25 years of age and with 3 years of professional driving experience with box trucks.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs independently and work as a team to move larger items.
  • Ability to safely move items out of donor residences and businesses using carts.
  • Great people skills are a must as a representative of Habitat MetroWest/Greater ReStores.
  • Understand that customer service is a top priority.
  • Neat, well-groomed appearance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

MA Worcester Construction Crew Leader

The member serving in this role will be part of the AmeriCorps team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Critical Home Repair (CHR), Veteran Critical Home Repair (VCHR), A Brush With Kindness (ABWK), Rehab, and new construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, we anticipate completing 2 home build projects, 6 VCHRs, 2 CHRs, and 2 ABWK projects. A secondary goal of this position is to have members cultivate and train volunteers to act as site leaders. We view the construction crew leaders as integral to our goals of building more homes and better neighborhoods and communities throughout our service area.
