JOB DESCRIPTION

PART-TIME GENERAL LABORER FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY METROWEST/GREATER WORCESTER

To Assist with Programs for Veteran Families

Hours: 20 (Monday – Saturday, 8:00 – 4:00 PM, Days TBD)

Reports to: VP of Philanthropy

Goals: With increasing need to accommodate veterans, those with disabilities and the elderly who are aging in place, there is a significant demand for Outreach programs such as Critical Home Repair (CHR), A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) and Operation Playhouse. With this increased demand, further organizational support is required to support Operation Playhouse, a program that builds playhouses for the children of Veterans.

Responsibilities of the Position
Assist with Operation Playhouse coordination – working in our off-site storage locations to inventory supplies, load the truck for events, keep storage area organized, and help on-site with each Operation Playhouse build.
Lead small groups of volunteers.
Help with materials management on site and at the storage warehouse and storage trailers. Pick up and organize materials needed for projects.
Participate in regular planning and debriefing meetings as needed.
Assist with Critical Home Repairs and Brush with Kindness events on an as-needed basis. Basic construction skills will be utilized with supervision from staff.

Required Meetings, Trainings and Events
Operation Playhouse Events to take place during Build-A-Thons (twice a year), and
Bi-weekly meeting with VP of Philanthropy and Operation Playhouse Manager (minimum)

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills Desired for this Position
Valid Driver’s License, ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements and ability to drive large pick-up trucks
Previous experience in construction preferred
Experience with power tools preferred
Experience working with volunteers or teaching/group facilitation experience desirable
Ability to work with a diverse group of people and experience working as a member of a team
Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity and our affiliate

Physical Requirements
Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time, sometimes on rough and uneven terrain
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis
Ability to work on ladders and heights of up to two-stories
Ability to work in varying weather conditions – event sites and storage areas are often not heated during winter and not air-conditioned during summer

Personal vehicle required?
Some travel is required for this position, so utilization of your own vehicle to get to required meetings and commute between build sites is necessary.
Member will have the opportunity to drive company trucks in order to transport tools and materials to and from the event or work sites.

Responsible To: Worcester Restore Manager

Clerk Hours: Thursday thru Saturday (some flexing is possible)

Time Required: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
1. Cashier experience
2. Strong customer service skills; Greet and thank customers for their business
3. Register area clean and organized. Help keep facility clean and organized
4. Arrive on time and ready to work. Work clothes and closed toed shoes are required
5. Follow all safety guidelines and instructions from ReStore Director
6. Complete projects in a timely manner, asking for help as needed
7. Assist customers, run cash register and maintain merchandise
8. Respond to phone and email inquiries.
9. Serve as an Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity

Other Duties as Needed:
1. Respond to donor and customer inquiries
2. Schedule donation pickups
3. Clean, test, price, and merchandize donations
4. Assist donors and customers with loading/unloading items from their vehicles
5. Lead/supervise and work with volunteers

ReStore Driver/Donations Ambassador – Worcester

The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore in Worcester is looking for a qualified and experienced full time driver, to pick up donations from homes in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area, to unload trucks, help load customer vehicles, process donations, and provide general customer service. Warehouse support will be required as assigned.

The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore in Worcester is looking for a qualified and experienced full time driver, to pick up donations from homes in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area, to unload trucks, help load customer vehicles, process donations, and provide general customer service. Warehouse support will be required as assigned.

The ReStore is a retail store that sells donated new and used building products, wood furniture, appliances, and home goods to raise funds for Habitat’s affordable home building efforts in the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area. The ReStore is open to the public.

The position is a full time position, 5 days per week (Tuesday-Saturday) position, 40 hours per week.

Requirements:

  1. Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record
  2. Experience driving a 22 ft. box truck. No Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  3. Strong driving knowledge of the MetroWest/Greater Worcester area
  4. At least 25 years of age and with 3 years of professional driving experience
  5. Ability to lift more than 60lbs, and heavier items with two people
  6. Ability to safely move items out of donor residences and businesses
  7. Great people skills are a must as a representative of Habitat MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore. Customer service is a top priority.
  8. Neat, well-groomed appearance
  9. Driving License, Driving Record, and CORI/SORI will be required.

ReStore Driver/Donations Ambassador – Ashland

This position is responsible for the driving and pick-up of merchandise from residences and businesses, effectively interact with donors and resolve any problems/concerns that may arise, safely packing the merchandise in the ReStore truck, and returning to ReStore and unpacking merchandise.

Reports to: Donor Relations Manager

Description:  This position is responsible for the driving and pick-up of merchandise from residences and businesses, effectively interact with donors and resolve any problems/concerns that may arise, safely packing the merchandise in the ReStore truck, and returning to ReStore and unpacking merchandise.

Responsibilities

  1. Load and unload all donated materials.
  2. Screen for product usability.
  3. Supervise truck volunteers making their experience meaningful.
  4. Drive HFHMW/GW vehicles to pick-up donated goods.
  5. Maintain an effective working relationship with ReStore staff, volunteers, Habitat homeowners and ReStore customers.
  6. Operate forklift.
  7. Daily cleaning of ReStore truck.
  8. Follow daily truck inspection guide and maintain all truck equipment communicating what need replacing.
  9. Be in store for all events.
  10. Assist customers, donors and staff in store as needed.

Required Skills / Experience

  1. Must be willing to understand the big picture of the HFHMW/GW mission and know that ReStore is a part of the larger goal.
  2. Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check.
  3. Ability to lift 75 pounds independently.
  4. Must be 25 years or older.
  5. Must have 3 year professional driving record of box trucks or larger.
  6. Ability to spend majority of the day standing or moving about ReStore. Work may require climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions.
  7. High school diploma or equivalent.
  8. Must have a driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  9. DOT card required (have or be able to pass the test to receive this certification).

MA Worcester Construction Crew Leader

The member serving in this role will be part of the AmeriCorps team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Critical Home Repair (CHR), Veteran Critical Home Repair (VCHR), A Brush With Kindness (ABWK), Rehab, and new construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, we anticipate completing 2 home build projects, 6 VCHRs, 2 CHRs, and 2 ABWK projects. A secondary goal of this position is to have members cultivate and train volunteers to act as site leaders. We view the construction crew leaders as integral to our goals of building more homes and better neighborhoods and communities throughout our service area.
