HOME REPAIR RECIPIENTS
Meet some of our Home Repair Recipients!
– Gerald, a Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran and Worcester homeowner, has received a new roof as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project who partners with us to support veterans as part of our Home Repair program. Storm Works Roofing & Restoration provided the labor onsite. Gerald has lived in the home for over 40 years and raised his two daughters there. He is so thankful to be receiving this much needed roof. Special thanks to Side by Side Charitable Organization. Gerald received the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for his time in Vietnam. Thank you Gerald for your service to this country.
“I am a Vietnam Veteran and a widower who lives alone. My home has fallen into disrepair and my retirement fund is running out. This coupled with high inflation and an advanced age is making it harder for me to keep up with necessary projects on my home. I would very much like to stay in the home that I have lived in for almost all of my adult life. My wife and I purchased this home almost 50 years ago. She sadly passed away many years ago now but my memories of her and my children growing up here are part of what keeps me going. I have a very strong attachment to my home.”
– Karen S., Habitat Home Repair Recipient: “I have an old house, and the porch was such a mess. Since Habitat repaired it, I sit on my porch almost every day just enjoying it. It was an above and beyond job, and they were so nice, too. It makes me want to do more to improve my house and to keep up with the porch. It was getting a little dangerous. It’s definitely safer. I appreciate the work.”
– Rich, the son of a 96-year-old WW II combat veteran: “Thank you again! Very grateful for all the work you and others did to make this happen. Keeping my dad in his own home is huge, especially with a new roof over his head. My Dad made enormous sacrifices his entire life, having 8 children, one with special needs. He lost a brother in WW II. He never believed in collecting anything unearned, but now he needs help. The roofing company was very professional and did a fantastic job. In addition, your Construction Manager was on site for the entire install. My dad is thrilled”.
– Linda, a widow of a Vietnam War Navy veteran, and happily married for 36 years until he died of cancer, conducted an exhaustive search to find a suitable home for her extended family of 7 that includes 4 young grandchildren. After looking at nearly 40 properties, she bought her current home which required – among other, essential repairs – a new roof. Linda was very pleased with the new roof, “My husband and I were happily married 36 years until he died of cancer. John was very proud to be a Veteran of the Navy. Thanks again Carole and everyone on the team for making my new roof possible” – Linda.
