2010 STURBRIDGE — It has often been
said that laughter is good for the soul. On
Friday night it will be good for both the soul
and the community, as the Stageloft Theater
will donate all proceeds from its New Year's Eve
variety and comedy show to the Tri-Community
Habitat project in Sturbridge.
Two shows
are scheduled at the Stageloft Theater to help
ring in 2011, one at 6 p.m. and the other at 8
p.m. The shows will feature musical selections,
Abbott and Costello routines, comic skits, and
other performances.
"We have been doing a
variety show for ten years and previously
donated to other charitable organizations,"
said Stageloft Theater owner Ed Cornely. "We
like to connect with the local community and
give back – the people who attend are very
gracious."
The Habitat Affordable
Housing Project in Sturbridge is the product of
a partnership between the town of Sturbridge,
the Sturbridge Housing Partnership, and the
Habitat for Humanity MetroWest and Greater
Worcester affiliate (HFH-MW/GW). The Sturbridge
Housing Partnership purchased the land using
community preservation funds intended to
increase the affordable housing inventory in
town. They subsequently awarded HFH-MW/GW the
right to develop 79 Fairview Park Road as an
affordable Habitat home.
The project is a
single family home with 1,200 square feet of
living space, and work on the foundation is
expected to begin in March of 2011 if the
weather cooperates. The unit will be designed
as a raised-ranch complete with three bedrooms
and one and a half bathrooms. In addition, the
structure will be detailed and landscaped in a
manner compatible with neighboring homes.
Informational meetings for prospective
homeowners will be held at various locations
throughout Sturbridge and Southbridge in
January.
The Stageloft Theater is no
stranger to benefiting Habitat endeavors,
donating the proceeds of many shows in the last
fifteen years to help defray the building costs
of Habitat structures.
