Volunteering at the ReStore
The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester ReStore sells donated new and used building supplies, appliances, and furniture. Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of running the store from customer service, donations processing, and sales floor merchandising.
The ReStore is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am-5pm. Volunteer duties include organizing donated merchandise, pricing sale items, assisting customers, and cleaning up after the sale.
Introducing: CERVIS (Community Event Registration and Volunteer Information System)
Through a collaborative effort between a Worcester Polytechnic Institute research team and Habitat staff, we are excited to announce that we are transiting to the volunteer management system CERVIS! CERVIS will be embedded right into this website allowing for an easier and more convenient way for you to sign up for that shifts that fit your schedule. CERVIS will allow us to better communicate our volunteer needs and coordinate with volunteers, maximizing your time and abilities!
However as we work through this transition, there will be a disruption in your ability to electronically sign up for volunteer opportunities. If you would like to sign up for volunteer opportunities please contact Molly Pietrantonio directly, email@example.com or 508-799-9259 ext 113. If you have signed up for shifts in VolunteerHub, those shifts and your participation is still expected and confirmed.
It is our hope that this new software will be up and functional within the coming weeks. For those of you that have utilized and created an account with VolunteerHub in the last 18 months, your user data is being transferred into CERVIS. Detailed account creation instructions will be posted here once the software is embedded.

NEW! Starting on September 1, 2015 we have kicked off our new ReStore Volunteer Orientation Sessions. Orientation sessions cover the mission of Habitat and ReStore, volunteer opportunities, and practices. Attending an orientation is a prerequisite for volunteering at the ReStore. ReStore Volunteer Orientation Sessions will be held on the first Monday of every month from 10am-11am and the third Friday of every month from 5:30pm-6:30pm. All new Volunteers must register for Orientation Sessions by e-mailing our Volunteer Coordinator Molly Pietrantonio at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 508-799-9529 ext. 113.

Group opportunities are also available at the ReStore when staffing permits. Groups are crucial in setting up store displays and moving materials as well as assisting customers and occasionally working on construction projects. You want to volunteer but have questions! We have the answers:
Q: What should I wear to volunteer at the ReStore?
A: Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and closed toe/heel shoes (athletic shoes or boots are best, no ballet slippers, crocs, heels, clogs, sandals, etc.).
Q: I’ll be there all day, do you provide lunch?
A: The ReStore does not provide lunch, but there are several lunch options close by.
Q: I’m supposed to start at 9:30AM, but the store doesn’t open until 10AM. How do I get in?
A: There is a doorbell on the left hand side of the main entrance door, press the button and someone will let you in.
Q: I would love to get my family more involved. Can I bring my kids along with me?
A: The minimum age for volunteering at the ReStore is 14 with a parent or guardian present. Sorry, no exceptions. Ages 16 and over are always welcome.
Q: Can I bring a group along?
A: Certainly! We have groups of up to 15 people volunteer at the ReStore. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator to set up a time to bring your group out. Please note: all volunteer groups must be scheduled in advance.
Q: What will I be doing during my time there?
A: It varies. As a general volunteer, your tasks may include: helping unload donations from vehicles, moving items to the store floor, assisting in pricing items, assisting in creating displays, greeting customers/answering questions, reorganizing/cleaning departments, helping customers to their vehicle with their new purchases, etc…
