Green Building

Earth Friendly and Sustainable Home Construction

At HFH-MW/GW we are committed to making our new homes as earth friendly and energy efficient as possible.

Our goal is two fold:

1) To enable our homeowners to operate their home cost effectively
2) To use enduring and sustainable products that are friendly to the environment

Strategies we use to consistently attain an Energy Star HERS rating below 60 include:

•   6 inch walls
•   Styrofoam insulation on the foundation
•   Heavy insulation in the attic
•   Energy Star rated appliances

• In Millbury, solar panels (donated by Alteris Renewables) for electricity
• All homeowners are also started with compact florescent light bulbs.

Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester compiles with the U.S. policy for the achievemnet of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation.
