Habitat Builds a Playhouzz for Union Hill Elementary School

Selected as one of a handful of organizations across the U.S., Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester is participating in the 2016 Playhouzz Challenge, a national charitable design contest. The contest was launched by Houzz.com, a home and design website with over 35 million followers, and the American Institute of Architects. Houzz.com invited its online members to submit designs for a playhouse that were then voted upon, after which we chose a winning design to build. The “Playhouzz” is being donated to the Union Hill School as part of the five year Neighborhood Revitalization plan taking place in the community.

The rain held off for our “Playhouzz” ribbon cutting ceremony on November 30 at Union Hill School in Worcester. Habitat was very pleased to be selected to build the “Playhouzz” with a $5,000 grant from Houzz, in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects. We were even more delighted to present the completed playhouse to Ishmael Tabales, principal of Union Hill School, and the many happy – and very well behaved children – who took turns exploring their new playhouse. Our mission is not only to build homes – but to build community and hope – which was evident in a big way at today’s ceremony. We are so happy to a part of the Union Hill Neighborhood Revitalization project that will continue to build the future for more children like this for the next five years!
