Advocating Locally-Protect Affordable/Workforce Housing
Over the past decade, the Affordable Housing Law, also known at Chapter 40 B, has been responsible for 80% of the affordable housing created outside of the Commonwealth’s major cities. Almost half of all of the affordable units created using this law were developed by local housing groups and non-profit organizations. Habitat for Humanity-MetroWest/Greater Worcester is one such group. HFH-MW/GW has recently completed three units under Chapter 40 B guidelines and has two additional units in the pipeline. Chapter 40 B regulations allow organizations like Habitat to partner with communities to diversify their housing base to include homes affordable to individuals earning at or below 80% of the area median income.
If the affordable housing law is repealed, 12,000 units of housing in the pipeline will never be built. Also lost will be the construction jobs associated with those developments.
The Affordable Housing Law helps support economic development. Businesses of all sizes need the affordable housing so their employees can afford to live where they work.

Supporting Housing Needs Internationally
Affordable housing is a global need. While working locally, we continue to impact global need. To support the global community, Habitat for Humanity-MetroWest/Greater Worcester participates in Habitat International’s tithing program.
Each month our affiliate sends a portion of the general funds we raise locally to Habitat for Humanity Brazil to assist in their efforts to provide simple, decent housing for families in need. To date we have provided housing for over 21 international families.
