We are currently undergoing a search for a Community Development/Volunteer Coordinator staff position and two AmeriCorps positions:

The Community Development/ Volunteer Coordinator position is primarily responsible for coordinating and scheduling volunteers, and organizing our Build Days. The coordinator will split time between the office and build sites, spending 50% of their time in the office scheduling and recruiting volunteers, and the other 50% of their time on the build site, assisting the Construction Manager in leading volunteers.

This position is responsible for all aspects of the volunteer program.  This includes the recruitment, processing, education, retention and coordination of all Habitat volunteers, including construction, committee, and office volunteers. This individual also works with Development Officer to coordinate all Corporate Build Days, including Home Build Sponsors and assist the Resource Development Officer with special build events. The position works closely with all staff members and volunteers to create a positive and productive atmosphere for volunteers.

Responsibilities:

Volunteer Outreach

  • Respond to all individual volunteer inquiries
  • Update/produce written informational and educational materials for volunteer outreach
  • Conduct monthly orientations for volunteers
  • Develop, maintain and evaluate programs for volunteer retention
  • Participate in the creation and management of the project budget and schedule.
  • Monitor volunteer satisfaction, and develop and implement volunteer appreciation programs

Volunteer Coordination

  • Scheduling of groups and skilled volunteers
  • Maintain volunteer records and statistics in the database in a timely matter
  • Recruit, train, and schedule site hosts
  • Coordinate activities for youth volunteers and manage community service volunteers

Build Site Coordination

  • Provide a positive and productive on-site experience for future homeowners , volunteers, and members of local project committees
  • Assure that Habitat safety policies are strictly followed on site.
  • Work closely with the Construction Manager to keep job site stocked with material and tools
  • Keep a daily jobsite log which documents all material and equipment deliveries. Ensure that all documentation is maintained and recorded.
  • Work with staff liaisons to maintain communication and ensure productive local project committees
  • Follow up with in-kind donation paperwork to ensure donors are thanked in a timely manner.

 Community Development

  • Represent Habitat to the community at fairs, expos and other special events such as information sessions
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with sponsors, HFHI, and local neighborhoods where we build and work
  • Contribute to newsletter for volunteer related articles

Skills:

  • Effective and enthusiastic leadership and team building skills
  • Well organized and detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task as well as delegate
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good supervisory and project management skills; diplomatic and flexible
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills required including database experience, MS Office, and internet
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn residential construction.
  • Proven ability to lead groups and work well with people of diverse skill levels and backgrounds.

Education/Experience:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Personal volunteer experience
  • Construction experience preferred but not required

The two AmeriCorps positions:

FAMILY SERVICES DEVELOPMENT: The selected member will establish a process and promote the application required to participate in the Veterans Critical Home Repair program. The member will create general public relations and media release materials. The member will research community resources to identify organizations to collaborate with and will research and develop a comprehensive Family Partnership work plan.

RESTORE DEVELOPMENT: The selected member will assist in the development and implementation of formal processes for prospect research to increase donations and patrons to the affiliate ReStore. The member will create and implement an research plan for attracting and maintaining individual and corporate ReStore donors. The member will identify donors for key categories, creatively identifying new avenues for potential donors.
